Stacks Sandwiches was founded in 2012 by Jodi Whalen and Phil Merrick, owners of August First Bakery in Burlington, VT. Jodi is from the Philadelphia area and grew up eating hoagies regularly and enthusiastically. When a well-loved 100 year old storefront opened up on the corner of Pearl St. & Winooski Avenue, they jumped on the opportunity to open up a classic hoagie shop in the heart of downtown Burlington.
Knowing that a great hoagie starts with great bread, Phil got to work on developing the perfect roll. A friend brought Phil some hoagie rolls from a famous Philadelphia bakery, and Phil quickly took to the bake table to replicate the real thing. Using classic Italian baking techniques, Phil created a delicious hoagie roll that has an old-world flavor, enough body to hold the most aggressive meats, but with a texture that is still naturally delicate. The resulting roll is one of the best you’ll ever have.
While designing the menu for Stacks, they took into account the fact that people’s tastebuds have developed and have become more sophisticated over the years. What does that mean? Stacks sandwiches are loaded with flavor. Slow roasted pork stuffed with ham and pickles, or rubbed with fresh herbs and garlic. Classic Italian with sharp provolone and top quality meats. Not just hummus and sliced vegetables for the vegetarian option, but a chick pea spread loaded with authentic Indian spices, topped with a fresh cilantro jalapeno chutney.Stacks Menu
